Conservative therapies
If the symptoms in the area of the joints are not so advanced or where there is disease which does not necessarily require operational measures we first consider conservative, i.e. non-surgical treatment. After a careful diagnosis, we decide which therapies are to be applied in the individual case, and create an individual treatment plan which coordinates the measures with one other. However, in some cases, it is advisable for forego conservative therapies if they cannot be performed due to individual circumstances or where there is a worsening of symptoms.
Conservative therapy means the use of drugs and physiotherapy. With the aid of physiotherapy the mobility of the joints can be retained and improved to some extent. Specific exercises strengthen the muscles and as such, ensure invigoration. This always presupposes own patient exercises according to a treatment plan which is to be drawn up on an individual basis. Physiotherapy is a good idea, especially before and after an operation.
Good successful treatment can also be achieved with physical therapies such as massage, electrotherapy, hot or cold applications. Also prescribed aids such as pillows, inserts or bandages relieve and support the joints and as such, contribute to an alleviation of the symptoms.
Drugs support the treatment of inflammation and the swelling of tissue. They are also used to relieve pain. In some cases, the injection of drugs in or around the joint also helps to inhibit inflammation and stop pain. We carry out this treatment under local anaesthetics.
