Microsurgery
Back problems can usually be eliminated by means of conservative therapies. If they are not sufficient, a causal treatment must be used. Microsurgical measures are taken above all in cases of intervertebral disc prolapses, spinal canal stenosis in the neck and loin column, syringomyelia and tumors.
Process of Treatment
Unlike in conventional operation procedures, a small incision of circa 1 to 3 centimeters is sufficient in microsurgery. This significantly reduces the danger of subsequent formation of scars. After general anesthetic, we introduce a probe directly into the relevant vertebra or intervertebral disc. There, we remove supernatant tissues and expand the spot slightly, relieving the nerve root. With the aid of a microscope and/or an endoscope, the acting doctor manages to see what he needs.
Duration of treatment: 20 – 40 minutes in the case of prolapse of the intervertebral discs.
30 – 50 minutes in the case of spinal canal stenosis.
Permanence in clinic: 8 to 12 days
Work incapacity: 4 to 10 weeks, depending on the profession
Ability to drive: after 8 weeks, at first only short distances
Sports: immediately after release: back-stroke swimming
after 4 weeks: Bicycle riding
after 10 weeks: fitness, jogging
after 3 months: breast-stroke swimming
after 4 months: golf and tennis
